CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Lisa mumbled into her hands, “I don’t know how to say this but—”

“Wait a minute.” Dee yanked Lisa’s hands from her face. “Did you sleep with Winston?”

“No,” Lisa whispered. “But what scared me is that I could’ve.”

Dee put her hand on the refrigerator. “What the hell happened?”

“Well.” Lisa pulled on her fingers. “We started talking about how we feel about each other.”

“Yeah, and?”

“The next thing I know he’s standing behind me and... putting his arms around me.” Lisa touched her forehead. “He was whispering in my ear. And his...breath was...so...you know?”

“Warm and making you hot?”

“Yes!” She tugged on Dee’s arm. “Girl you know what it does to me when a man blows in my ear. I found myself getting lost in his touch. Then...”

Dee groaned. “Then...what?”

“Then we kissed.” Lisa touched her mouth. “And I mean we really kissed. Then he picked me up and sat me on the counter. He was kissing my legs and about to—”

“Did you sleep with him?” Dee moved her hand from the refrigerator.

“No! I just told you I didn’t.”

Dee squinted. “Is that the truth?”

“Of course it’s the truth. I—”

“I don’t want to hear this, Lisa.” Dee moved to the stove.

“What?”

“I don’t want to hear any more of this.”

“Why are you being so defensive?”

“Because this makes no sense! You got a wonderful guy in the other room who would give you the world and you’re going to throw that away for an attraction?”

“Shh!” Lisa rushed up to her. “He’ll hear you.”

“Maybe he should. Maybe if Jake hears how ridiculous this thing with you and Winston is, then you’ll come to your senses.”

“I have no intentions of throwing what Jake and I have away but I can’t control my feelings, Dee.”

“See, I knew it.” She pointed. “You do like Winston.”

“I hate how I think about Winston but I can’t stop myself.” Lisa moved away from her. “I don’t know what these feelings are but they’re there and I think they’re real.”

“I don’t believe this.”

“What do I do?” Lisa rushed to Dee and grabbed her hands. “I don’t want to lose Jake. I love him and I’d rather die before hurting him, but my heart’s splitting in two.”

“Let me get this straight.” Dee let go of her hands. “Are you saying that you’re in love with Winston?”

“I don’t know.” Lisa nibbled on her finger. “I’ve never felt so strongly about two men before in my life. I’m scared that this will cost me my relationship with Jake and I can’t lose him.”

“Lisa—”

“But when I’m alone with Winston I just can’t control my feelings, and if he hadn’t stopped last night, then I think I’d have made a big mistake.”

Dee’s face twisted. “You’re so damn selfish.”

Lisa did a double take.

“You got a great guy in there who loves you and you’re horny for another guy?”

“Dee?”

“What is your problem?” she yelled. “You want the whole damn world? Is that it?” Dee waved her arm. “You want Jake and Winston now?”

“Dee—”

“You should be ashamed of yourself, Lisa. What you’re doing is selfish and you’re not thinking about how Winston could be hurt in the long run.
